Celebrex (Celecoxib) is a sulfa non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Celecoxib is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain, painful menstruation and menstrual symptoms. Celebrex Celecoxib is also used to reduce numbers of colon and rectum polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (A condition where hundreds or thousands of polyps form in the colon and cancer can develop).

INDICATIONS OF GENERIC CELEBREX (CELECOXIB)

Celebrex is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Celecoxib is used to treat painful menstrual periods. Celecoxib is also used with surgery and other treatment to reduce number of polyps in the colon and rectum polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis. Celecoxib is used to treat acute pain in adults. Celebrex Celecoxib is used to treat primary dysmenorrhea.

MECHANISM OF ACTION OF GENERIC CELEBREX (CELECOXIB)

Prostaglandins are the chemicals which contribute to the inflammation of arthritis that causes pain, fever, swelling and tenderness. Celecoxib blocks the enzyme that produces prostaglandin and ultimately it’s concentration get reduced. As a result, inflammation along with fever, pain, swelling and tenderness are reduced. Celebrex causes less inflammation and ulceration of stomach and intestine with short term use. Celecoxib does not interfere with the clotting of blood.

SIDE EFFECTS OF GENERIC CELEBREX (CELECOXIB):

The following are some side effects associated with Celebrex.

• Gastrointestinal problems : Constipation, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, gas.
• Neurological problems : Headache, dizziness, confusion, seizures, mental or mood changes.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF GENERIC CELEBREX (CELECOXIB)

• Celecoxib is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to Celebrex (Celecoxib), aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Celecoxib is contraindicated in patients who have demonsrated allergic-type reactions to sulfonamides.
• Celecoxib is contraindicated in patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Celecoxib is contraindicated for the treatment of peri-operative in the setting of coronary artery bypassgraft (CABG) surgery.

DOSAGES OF GENERIC CELEBREX (CELECOXIB)

The lowest effective dose of Celebrex Celecoxib should be used. For the treatment of osteoarthritis, the usual dose of Celebrex is 100 mg twice daily or 200 mg as a single dose. For rheumatoid arthritis, the usual dose is 100 or 200 mg twice daily.
For acute pain or menstrual cramps, the ususal dose of Celebrex (Celecoxib) is 400 mg as a single dose on the first day followed by an additional 200 mg if needed, then 200 mg twice daily as needed. For familial adenomatous polyposis, the recommended dose of Celebrex is 400 mg twice daily.
